Bronze Award 2008: An African Beaded Christmas
In 2007 City View partnered with the Hillcrest Aids Centre (HACT) to create “An African Beaded Christmas.” The project aimed to create awareness for HACT as well as to financially support women affected by HIV and AIDS in poor communities, through the purchase of hand beaded Christmas décor made especially for City View. African beading is an artform that has rich cultural heritage and is celebrated with passion and flair. Beaders from the Woza Moyo craft shop at HACT created spectacular proudly South African Christmas décor that would send a message of hope and love to all shoppers at City View. The Centre was dressed with sparkling beaded baubles, stars, angels and trees. Special attention was drawn to World Aids Day which falls on 1st December every year.

Bronze Award 2008: iCare Valentines Promotion
City Views theme for Valentines 2008 was to spread the sentiment of love to those who don’t often get a chance to feel special. We also wanted to get our shoppers involved, educate them and make them aware of the plight of street kids. City View and iCare teamed up over Valentines Week to raise much needed funds for iCare, a non-profit organisation devoted to finding meaningful and sustainable solutions to the challenge of street children in South Africa. City View sponsored an array of beads which after a crash course in beading, the iCare children transformed into beautiful bracelets and key rings. These items were sold at the Centre to raise funds and over R7,600.00 was collected from sales and donations. All funds went directly to the iCare organisation and more specifically the Illovo school for rehabilitated street children.
On Valentines day, the 19 boys that attended the Illovo school, were treated to a lunch sponsored by Wimpy City View, a game of indoor soccer sponsored by Action Sports as well as a giant cake sponsored by Sweet Street. Shopping Centre sponsored a draw to the value of R1,000. The lucky winner was Ms Priscilla Govender.

Silver Award 2009: Mama's of Africa - Mother's Day Promotion
In 2009 City View teamed up with The Robinhood Foundation for a Mothers Day promotion with a difference. We celebrated the “Mama’s of Africa” by collecting basic food items for needy grandmothers looking after their orphaned grandchildren. Whilst these women should be enjoying their golden years, they are in reality running after toddlers and looking after sometimes as many as 8 or 10 children. We wanted to honour these courageous women by giving them basic food items to ease the financial burden of looking after these children. Through generous shopper and tenant donations at the Centre Court display, we reached our target to fill 100 “gogo bags!”
Once the promotion was complete, a special gogo morning was held with 20 gogos from the Inchanga area. A morning of entertainment and pampering was prepared for these ladies. The gogo’s were each given a gogo bag and an extra bag of donated goodies to wish them a happy “Mothers Day.” We were very privileged to have a visit from world renowned story teller and writer, Gcina Mhlophe! Gcina celebrated with the women and had her audience spellbound with her enchanted stories! The ladies were also treated to the sweet sounds of the Morningside Primary Choir and received mini-manicures from City View tenant, Beauty and Balance. The City View Centre Management team and The Robinhood Foundation delivered the remaining 80 bags to the Zamazulu Nkosi Centre for the Aged and Chronically Sick in Kwamashu.
